Rhiannon Giddens is a member of the local musical group The Carolina Chocolate Drops. I have seen her perform in person 3 times. The first time was at a Native American PowWow. The second time was at a Celtic Festival where she performed with a group of Celtic musicians and singers. Now, I have seen her with the Carolina Chocolate Drops which is a historical Piedmont musical group, their album is called "Genuine Negro Jig", its unique and part-folk, part-bluegrass, part-blues and very bare bones. Sort of turn-of the century (1900's) not (2000's) backyard music with 2 other young 'African Americans'. I wondered if anyone else knew of her and if she is tri-racial like me. From the looks of her, she seems as if she could very well be an African/Caucasian/Native American blend.

can't identify my race

hey guys, i know this might sound really stupid and pathetic
but it really bugs me when ppl think im white with a tan!

it upsets me sometimes and i know it shouldn't i already feel weird been like 1 of about 7 mixed ppl at my college full of 2000 students.

when ppl say "oh my god really?"
"wow you have tanned well"
"well u dont look it do u?"
"oh i didnt realise i thought u was white"
"omg u look italian, spanish etc"
arghh im sick of it
i know people should know me for who i am not what race i am, but being mixed is a big part of me, it is me, you guys understand me right? does anyone else feel the same?
im only 17 and i know it will get better with time but im sure some of you out there can empathise with me?
and sorry for my poor typing i cant be bothered right know using correct punctuation x

also, just to clarify, the survey is formatted so that other permutations of mixed race can respond; this is because i have been unable as of so far to recruit enough black/white biracials for study- if i collect enough data on this population, i can focus on it and narrow the focus to black/white experiences. this is ideal, because different permutations of mixed race have had different histories and experiences

feel free to ask me any questions about this study after reading the Informed Consent Form (1st page)

my sons hair...(pics inc.)

My son was born with very long straight black soft hair. So much so that he really needed a hair cut first week. We didnt though and its still growing. However, its texture is changing but not all over at the same time.
(he is half white half black)
The top now gets fairly curly, really curly when wet, the sides are wavy and unruly and the back frizzy and straight. He is only almost 6 months now so im sure it will change lots more before its over but Im trying to manage it so we can continue taking lots of pics of him and have him look "neat" without all the wild hair in a few, though it made for some cute pics here and there.

His hair texture is still really soft like caucasian hair right now but I cant do much with it. I used to blow dry it straight after bath (yeah I know, hes a baby but he actually used to like me doing this, lol.) but now it just gets frizzy so Im seeing it drying out more now.

What I have tried:
1.shampoo with mild baby shampoo and thats all.
2. same as above but also condition with very good deep conditioner.
3. blow dry (not anymore)
4. let air dry
5. while still wet, apply "softee" herbal hair food then let dry.

My closest results lately have been using the softee, brushing down the frizzy back, wavy unruly sides to straight and letting the top curl up. However, because he is a baby and lays on his head, the back just keeps losing this stuff and refrizzes, the sides stick out even with the stuff and the top is the only hair this helps. It seems a little too heavy for the sides and back but works nice if only a little is used on top.

Here it is kind of crazy on day 2 after using the softee stuff and doing nothing to it at all next day, most of the stuff has worn out of his hair.

Here it is with the softee stuff in it sides brushed down top left to curl but it dont stay that way, well top does but sides keep sticking out as they are more wavy rather than curly.

Guess my prob is that I wish it was either all curly or wavy, or whatever texture so one thing would work for whole head. What can I do for the sides as they are so unruly since they are wavy not curly like top? Is there a better product with less greasiness and more moisture and hold for more caucasian type curly/wavy but dry hair? I also know it could change lots more this is just for time being.

One another note, anyone have this type of hair or seen this type go completely kinky or more like black hair?

Need help for my IVF (in vitro)

Hello,

I am questioning myself a lot and maybe can have some help from the board. My husband and I have being trying for a baby for 5 years and we did IVF before but my husband has a semen problem and it will be nearly impossible for us to have children. So we decided to use donor semen instead. Now my problem is that I need my children to look like their biological father is my husband and with all the mixing we have i do not know how to choose the donor if he chould be white, biraccial or black. Please help we are as follow

ME 50/50 white/black spanish look with light skin, dark hair (curly) dark eyes

Father white, blue eyes, grandma white, green eyes, grandpa white ble eyes

Mother black, dark eyes, grandma black dark eyes, grandpa black dark eyes.

My husband is dark , hazel eyes, curlu hair

his father black, dark eyes, grandma black, dark eyes, grandpa black, dark eyes

his mom very light skin (looks biracial) with green eyes, grandma 50/50 white/black light skin brown eyes, grandpa 50/50 white/black, hazel eyes.

My husband had a first son 10 years ago and he is a lot lighter than my husband a little like will smith colour.

I know it is a lot of mixing but can you give me some help.

The trans-Saharan slave trade - clues from interpolation analyses and high-resolution characterization of mitochondrial DNA lineages

Conclusions
The interpolation analyses and complete sequencing of present mtDNA sub-Saharan lineages observed in North Africa support the genetic impact of recent trans-Saharan migrations, namely the slave trade initiated by the Arab conquest of North Africa in the seventh century. Sub-Saharan people did not leave traces in the North African maternal gene pool for the time of its settlement, some 40,000 years ago.
