Old Mulatto Pics for sale on ebay

I came across these very old photos of mulattoes for sale on Ebay that looked interesting. Most of these mulattoes don't look happy. These photos are from the late 1800's to the early 1900's. I bet they could tell us some great stories.

Interracial couple, very rare photo. As you all know interracial marriages were forbidden and illegal in those times.

Forum: Mulatto Topics

I haven't been able to get on for a few days. It says the board is disabled. I've tried from several browsers, 2 computers, even my phone, so I know it's not my IP address being blocked. Just curious what's going on?
Forum: Mulatto Topics

Hospital or School picking race for you

Here is an issue that has gotten me so heated in the past that I have written letters of complaint to hospital staff and administration of offices of employment.

(1) I was hired by a company and after a 3-day training session, we went into a room to be fingerprinted. A young, African-American woman was processing us and we all filled out our cards, putting our ethnicity, identifying markers, and height/weight,etc. I was next in line and she took the card, checking everything and then said, "Oops, let me fix this" as she scratched out the Pacific Islander/Asian category and then checked Black. She said, you put the wrong thing. I got very angry and corrected her and said, "I AM a Pacific Islander! That's why I put that. That's what I've indentified with all of my life!" She said, Oh, sorry and grabbed some liquid paper and then corrected it. Everyone in line started looking at their shoes...

(2)I took my son to the ER when he was 8 months old after he bumped his head. My husband and I were waiting when they called me up to triage. Without asking me anything, the rep started filling out the top portion of the clipboarded admit forms and checked BlackMale for my son then handed the forms to me. I scratched off and wrote across the top in huge letters, DO NOT DECIDE MY CHILD'S RACE FOR ME. HE IS NOT BLACK. HE IS MIXED RACE. I later wrote a letter to the hospital but never heard back.

(3)I was pregnant with my daughter and went to see a dermatologist for excessive melanin known as Melasma. I literally had a mask on my face that looked like I had soaked my skin in black coffee and it was embarassing and needed to be treated. The doctor in his knee-jerk reaction said there was nothing he could do for a "dark skinned black" who had natural melanin. He rushed me out before any diagnosis was made and when I got to the checkout desk to pay the $30 co-pay for nothing, I wrote Pacific Islander/Mixed Race across the entire carbon paper in a sharpie. My primary doctor gave me a skin cream that cleared me up in 2 weeks plus an apology.

(4) My son was at an urgent care facility and when we were called back, the nurse gives the chart to the doc and says, We have a White male, aged 22 months complaint of fever, lethargy...

(5)My husband was laid off years back and we had to get a temporary state insurance for my son. They charted him as Hispanic/Mexican-American even though he is not and he was born in the states. To this day, he is still recognized as a Mexican-American by the state of TN.

(6)When my daughter registered for school this past year, a know-it-all black secretary who saw my white husband with my daughter thought she was being clever and marked my daughter as black. So, school starts and it turns out that they were looking for a black kid in the classroom which was off-balance. The school likes to diversify and visually, the teacher did not see a black child My daughter ended up being put in a different classroom as was re-classified as White for the purposes of keeping a balance of different types of students.

Forum: Important Issues to Mulattos

Octoroons & Quadroon photos?

Hi, sorry if this is in the wrong place, please move if so. I hate to ask for favors when I know I haven't contributed to the forum as much as I'd like to (but that's going to change!)

For a class project, our professor gave us the freedom to make a video or essay of something we think defines us or something we feel strongly about. I'm of mixed ancestry (my mother is slightly less than half black). I wanted to do random photos showing faces of people who are between 1/8 and 1/4 african (or octoroon/quadroon if you prefer). I have photos of myself and my family and a few I've collected of strangers but I need around 20 more.

To give you an idea of the type of mix I'm looking for, here's a few examples:

I'd really appreciate any help to expand!

Forum: Mulatto Topics

I was reading something about Halle Berry the other day.She was talking about when she was in school and she told people her mom was white and people would just say to her (But you just look black) and it made her upset

This brought back memories of my childhood and growing up living in a predominatly
black and white area.In the south(Mississippi)which I hated.
My dad is Spanish/European,Native American and Filipino(from florida) and my mom is African American.(I was a medium brown color intill a teenager I got Lighter)
If any one was mixed around that area it was just good old white american and Afro-American.So my I was kinda rare.

But anyway I remember having to deal with the samething as Halle Berry(.But a little different)
My mom always told me that I could Identify how ever wanted to.I always said i was mixed.I never had a problem intill
5th Grade I had a white teacher who gave us those papers for those test (where you had to circle in your race) and I always circle other and I remember my teacher seeing my paper and she grabbed it and said

Teacher said:How are you a other you suppose to put black your black arn't you(asking sarcastically)

Me:My moms black my dad is mixed

The teacher asked the whole class ( who was mostly white and a few blacks)
does Arseno (my name) look black everyone said yea and laughed (accept some blacks)

That was one of the most embarrassing moments of my life.
I never told my Mom and from then on I identified as African american

It wasn't intill I was a teenager Me and others notice that my skin toned changed.
I went from a medium brown to a light brown with a reddish orange undertone(if that make sense) and I started to grow my hair long.and started to look like my dad side of the family.and I started back saying i was mixed

Pic from back then

Then here comes Highschool a new School new People still in Mississippi.
by then I had long straight hair to my chest and had a more ambiguous look(well my mom thought so Lol) I stayed in a urban African American community but hung out with everybody of any race.I remember dating this one black girl and it didnt last long because she would get mad and ask me you was raised by your black mom why dont you just say your black when people ask.I said cuz im not just black.
I later found out alot of black people thought that I thought I was better then them.so that bothered me so I kinda seperated my self from alot of them
and white people were ok but i felt odd and the girls would only date me in private.

Around 11th grade I made alot of hispanic friends and I felt like I fit in more with them then any other group in school and spoke pretty good spanish anyway.
so I never had a problem with there familys or dating a hispanic girl.like I did with the white and black but I never dated a mulatto girl and the ones i knew Identfied as white. (what i mean by that is they only dated white guys and only considered them selves white cuz of there phenotype.catch my drift)

It seems like alot of that stuck with me till this day.
Im almost 21 now and I moved to Orlando,Fl with my dad side they all have a white, brown, ambiguous phenotype.(all colors)rainbow family

Off TOPIC

and Ive noticed that my mixed raced family is quickly becoming part of the Latino community.Because most of my aunt and uncles have kids by hispanic men and women.so most of my cousins say there latino including my sister..

Its kinda confusing to me.its almost like adopting another culture.
but we have the same mix as alot of Puerto Ricans,Dominicans, etc but just born in the US. Its a wierd topic.

Sorry Im just venting needing to release alot of this cuz I never talked about.it
any body else with a similar story

Leave Your opinion

ME NOW

Forum: Mulatto Topics
